Giant Excavator

The Giant Excavator in Rust acts as an enhanced version of the standard Mining Quarry, allowing players to extract a range of ores including stone, metal ore, sulfur ore, and high-quality metal ore. It is guarded by a contingent of 18 scientists who possess the same artificial intelligence and drop the same loot as those found at the oil rig. After defeating these scientists, players gain access to the excavator to harvest resources in bulk.

Operating the Giant Excavator can attract attention as it sends out a signal over an RF frequency when activated; this could potentially alert other players to its use and location. A crucial strategic point to consider is that the two output containers for collected resources are exposed, posing a challenge for players to defend and safely secure the extracted ore.

As an update in December 2021 increased the production rate of the Giant Excavator, players now benefit from a more efficient resource gathering process, especially appealing to those who prefer not to mine manually. Additionally, adjacent to the generator is an airdrop terminal, which can be used to call in an airdrop once fully charged (requires 5 diesel fuel). The Giant Excavator thus serves as a powerful tool for resource collection in Rust, provided players can effectively manage the inherent risks.
