The Oil Rig Scientist is a non-playable character (NPC) in Rust, encountered on both the Small and Large Oil Rig landmarks. These NPCs are a significant occupational hazard for players aiming to loot these high-value areas. They are equipped with either an LR-300 assault rifle or MP5A4 submachine gun, making them formidable opponents.

Oil Rig Scientists patrol the rigs, moving around unpredictably, which means players can't predict their exact movements. If an Oil Rig Scientist spots a player, they will aggressively approach and open fire. Their high damage output requires players to take sufficient healing items, such as medical syringes, to survive the encounter.
